20 Jul REDUCTION OF WILDLIFE MORTALITY ON ROADS AND RECOVERY OF THE ECOLOGICAL CONNECTIVITY

Eastman, Québec (July 20, 2020) – Roads and traffic dramatically increase mortality rates for wildlife populations and act as barriers to movement blocking access to resources important to many species. Road mortality surveys are proving to be a useful tool in restoring connectivity between populations of wildlife.

We invite you to watch a presentation “Sustainability Across Disciplines: Reducing wildlife mortality on roads and restoring ecological connectivity” produced by one of our research partners at Concordia University, in particular Steffy Velosa, on the reduction of wildlife mortality on roads and restoration of ecological connectivity.

Her research provides a good understanding of the results of the first year of study by the Corcordia team from data collected along Highway 10 which connects Montreal to Sherbrooke via the Green Mountains link in the north of the Northern Appalachian and Acadian ecoregion.

This collaboration with Concondia is extremely important for a better understanding of road ecology and connectivity in our territory of action.
